OK, it doesn't really rhyme when you pronounce it correctly (kor-NAY) but it wouldn't make any sense to say "extra value is what you gay when you make cornets." Or maybe it does make sense to someone, somewhere and then I suspect the meaning would have little to do with baking.
Making cornets, or paper piping tubes, is a valuable addition to your baking and decor repertoire for two reasons that I can currently think of:
(1) they are terribly easy to make, when you remember how to make them,
(2) they are fantastically handy when you have run out of piping bags,
(3) and they give you far more technical precision than a sloppy pastry bag and piping tip.
I could think of three things. I lied.
This is where I find them irreplaceable: when you have to pipe a multitude of colors. They are compact, disposable, require only one accessory (parchment paper) and adjustable: just cut the tip for a larger opening.
Wait. How many reasons do I have now? Oh wait, it's great for piping chocolate, white or dark, because it's microwavable. If the chocolate hardens, just zap it for a few seconds.
Cut a triangle from a piece of parchment. Label the corners A, B and C
Tuck "A" under, towards "C" so that
The tips line up
It's already looking like a cornet!
Wrap "B" around and tighten the cornet up to form a very tight tip
Tuck the ends inside the cornet to seal.
Get ready to pipe!

OK, the title made me giggle and took me back several decades. Even if it's unlikely I'll ever pipe anything in reality, theory is good.
Hi Gisene -
I just rec'd my order of Starry Starry Night cookies and asst'd macaroons from the VT store. SO deliciously moist and addictive. When I purchased these on line, I noticed that the store didn't include your website or your Twitter account as an option for "How did you hear of us?"-- so I suggested that they add it. I rec'd a lovely note with my order thanking me for my suggestion and telling me that they'll be adding your site(s) as a source. Great for tracking/marketing info.
Continued success...@lynnz22
You know, for years people have told me just what you said as the main sell for parchment piping bags- the ability to get super fine detail and control but I haven't ever been pleased with them for that. I admit I only ever use them when I run out of piping bags or I don't want to waste a full piping bag for a small bit of something (you're right- they're great for chocolate)
I LOVE making cornets. Even when everything has gone wrong in a day (and if none of my baking adventures have turned out), at least I know I can always make successful cornets. Thanks for the great demo!
Love the microwavable aspect!
(BTW .. I've now got the "Coronet" jingle stuck in my head) LOL.
thanks for the pics with this..also there is a typo that is kind of strange:
extra value is what you gay - Iam thinking you meant get like the title...oh weel
oh man am I stupid..you meant to say that- that's my ADD skipping over lines...
you should see my SAT scores becuase of it...
sorry continue being a great blogger
Leann, that was the joke. Cornet doesn't rhyme with "get" but with "gay." Oh well. So if I were to correctly rhyme it wouldn't makes sense. This is when you know a joke doesn't work. Next time.
I love using these instead of regular piping bags.
Totally agree with your statement about if you are able to remember how to make them! Even though I make them once a week, I always have to pause and think about it a harder than I should really have to. ;)
For the benefit of those young enough not to remember: "Extra value is what you get when you buy Coronet" was a TV ad jingle sung by Rosemary Clooney. For those who know her only as George's aunt, if at all, you are missing something. Put some of her ballads on your IPod.
This could not have come at a better time as I will be decorating a birthday cake tomorrow,, I have my handy Wilton decorating set from the '80's however the bags are looking pretty sad. Of course I will be humming that jingle as I make my parchment bags.
Good joke with a title Gesine, and also you have a new version of your name given by comment no2. Brentwood Blogger.
he said Gisene ;)
I use small plastic sandwich bags and nip the end of one of the corners after stuffing bag with frosting. Works well.
This brought back bad memories of pastry school. I think I made 10,000 of these. . .they always unraveled in the middle of using them. I resorted to taping them closed, which made me look very unprofessional!
Is the first picture a cake for Circus Smirkus?! because I go to that camp! and that's the logo!
Holy crap! It works! I am terrible at decorating but thought I'd try it for my son's 7th birthday cake. He is so happy that I spelled his name legibly! :)
